All New Solid Gold Product for Cats

On criticism of Solid Gold’s cat food was that it included grains. They have their new food Indigo Moon that doesn’t include any grains for cats. This is low carbohydrate and high protein. My Siamese loves it. She loves it so much she isn’t eating her canned food any more. That’s right, my Siamese prefers the Indigo Moon to canned food. She hated dry food until I got this. Now my problem is making sure she gets enough fluid.

In general having your pets like their food is a good thing. However, one advantage of feeding Katz N Flocken was that my cats liked it but they didn’t over eat. I worry that my Siamese will start over eating on Indigo Moon.

Solid Gold makes this food with their usual attention to detail and quality. It’s one of the highest quality foods out there for cats and we highly recommend it. If you cats really don’t like dry food, Solid Gold does make some canned food as well.

Soft Paws

Stop worrying about the furniture or the scratching. Stop with the water bottles and the tape and the warning bells. Use softpaws. Our kitten was a huge scratcher and we decided to try softpaws. Trimming her nails was the most difficult part with her. She hates having anything trimmed. However, once we got to the gluing on the paws, she allowed us to work with her easily.

Check out the sizes for softpaws and you can some to fit your cat. They last about a month or so. Typically they fall off on their own, but you might have to pull some off. We allow our cat to have a few days before trimming the nails and then putting on another round of the soft paws. It saves the furniture. Our cats now have nails in lovely artistic colors!

Now I know you are all Siamese cat lovers, but don’t stop with the cats. The colors on these posters are marvelous and images a delight to the senses. We feel like we are wrapped in colors every time we look at these paintings. You can purchase either prints (a nice way to get some lovely art when you are on a tight budget) or you can get an original painting as well.

I realize that as a Siamese Cat lover, this is horrible to admit, but our favorite is the Yellow Calla Lily!

In addition to the pink and black keds, they also come in pink and white in the slip on. Both keds feature some fun poses. The Breeze Litter Box

About six months ago, we were contacted by the people who make the Breeze Litter Box to test it out. At first the cats ignored it. We were working under a bit of a constraint. We have a very elderly cat who is easily confused so completely removing her old litter box was out of the question.

For months the breeze sat there and was unused. Then one day I decided the cats knew it was a litter box. They understood the concept. So I put it in another room. They started using it and have ever since.

Tidy Cat, who makes the Breeze box is kind enough to send literature on introducing a cat to the new box. It is a big change. However, I love it and if the cats will use it, I hope they make this for a very long time.

The pellets that the Box uses aren’t dusty. While some cats have reported liking to chew on them, mine don’t. They do scatter but not like regular litter or scoopable litter. Instead of scooping clumps of urine, the liquid waste goes through vents in the box and are caught by pads. It’s amazing how much less oder there is around this box. In fact, I don’t think people even know we have a litter box in this room. I love it.

The pellets may look pricey, but that bag is enough to last a multicat household for about 5 weeks. They recommend changing every month so it’s about appropriate. The pads last about a week with two cats.

We highly recommend the Breeze Litter Box.

Litter Box Health

While most people don’t like to think about the litter box, it’s important to know what’s going on in the cat’s litter box. Changes in urination and stool can be the first signs of disease in a cat.

Cats should urinate several times a day. It will vary depending upon the cat, and the amount of fluid they have taken in during the previous hours. However, blood in the urine is a sure sign that something is amiss and should be checked out by your veterinarian. Straining to urinate is equally problematic. Worse, if you have checked the box and there is little or no fluid and/or if your cat is crying while attempting to urinate. Cats who cannot void urine are in life threatening danger and no time should be lost calling the veterinarian. If it is after hours, the emergency veterinary services in the area should be utilized.

Any cat who suddenly stops using the litter box for urination should be checked by a vet. There are many reasons for this change, including behavioral problems. However, a vet should always rule out a physical cause, such as a urinary tract infection before you start working to retrain your cat to the litter box.

Stool volume and consistency should also be monitored. Stool should be firm but not hard and it should have form. If a cat suddenly has a major change in their stool, it may need to see a veterinarian. The only reasons NOT to see a vet if this happens, is if the owner has knowledge that the cat’s diet has changed suddenly or if the cat is taking a medication that the vet has said will cause diarrhea.

Blood in the stool, formed or not, should be checked out. Younger cats who have this symptom are most typically suffering from a high parasitic load. A veterinarian can test for this with a simple test and the treatment is not difficult.

Changes in stool volume should also be noted. If cat is suddenly not having as many bowel movements or is straining they should be checked out. The most common intestinal blockage is the furball but cats have been known to ingest some strange items in their play, so it’s important to know what’s happening. If the cat seems under the weather, is lethargic or vomiting as well as straining, this can be a serious problem that needs immediate attention.

Older cats will often have lower stool volumes and be more prone to constipation. As their kidneys get older, they have a harder time maintaining their fluid balance. The stool gets harder and is more difficult to pass. It is important the older cats be monitored regularly and have plenty of fresh water. A veterinarian can offer suggestions to those cats who suffer from recurring bouts of constipation.

Cheysuli

Cheysuli is a two and a half year old spayed female chocolate point. She came to this household after having been a breeder queen. She had not been shown and was very shy.

Cheysuli was an unusual cat to adopt. She was very shy around people but less so around cats. Following advice of cat experts, she was separated and put in her own room to create territory when she came to the house. As a new owner, I spent as much time as I could in the room with her. She was not a friendly cat and refused much attention.

It was only a happy accident that another cat in the household was sitting at the door one day and Chey happened to notice her. Chey immediately came out from her hiding place and began rolling around on the ground in greeting. The other cats didn’t quite know what to make of this almost overly friendly cat but I began to let her out to see the other cats. After six months she has come around and is far more friendly but she is not as people oriented as my other Siamese, Simone was.

Many cat lovers on the forum at Meezer.com have shared their stories and information about their cats. Chocolate points are supposed to be far more aloof. They are definitely an alpha cat. Chocolate points are also a very loyal cat and it is likely to take some time for Chey to really come around in the household.

I have one cat who is not very cat friendly, yet Chey has managed to snuggle up with her during nap time. She chases both cats around when the notion takes her. While in many ways she seems to be a lower cat on the totem pole, she gets her way when it counts.

Cheysuli is an active, athletic cat. She’s extremely stubborn and intelligent. These are all common traits with the average Siamese and she certainly exudes them.
